Welcome, Jane!
Janine O'Leary Cobb
Earlier this year, the Board of BCAM decided that the bank balance would permit employment of a half-time person to help track information about environmental conta-minants as they relate to the development of breast cancer; to liaise, on behalf of BCAM, with environmental and francophone groups; and to organize and coordinate various BCAM events. In the time to come, fundraising and grant-writing may be added to this list.
We publicized the position for a month and were surprised (and a bit daunted) to receive 49 applications. After winnowing this down, we interviewed nine candidates and offered the position to Jane Shulman, who started working with us on May 1st.
Jane graduated with a B.A. Journalism from Concordia and continues to attend courses in women's studies and sociology. She has worked at a variety of progressive media outlets over recent years (Concordia's Link, the Canadian University Press, CKUT McGill, HOUR Magazine), is a member of the national board of directors of PFLAG (Parents, Families & Friends of Lesbians and Gays) and organizer of the Montreal chapter.
Jane has already proved herself a valuable resource (see her articles in this newsletter) and we know that you join us in warmly welcoming her to BCAM.
