BCAM NEWS

Volunteer speakers Lannie Mayo and Deena Dlusy-Apel presented “The Beast of Beauty” to BCAM member Fiona Hanley’s class of community health nursing students at McGill University in October. Also joining them as a speaker was BCAM member Beverley Thorpe who represents Clean Production Action.

Our volunteers have recently been fanning out to other Canadian cities promoting BCAM’s message using visual presentations that already have been given to many interested groups in Montreal. Deena and Lannie accepted an invitation from teacher and author Samantha King to speak to her students at the Ban Righ Centre at Queen’s University in Kingston.

A University of Ottawa medical student interest group on women’s health issues was the audience in November for speakers Carol Secter and Nancy Guberman. While in Ottawa, Carol and Nancy also presented our newest project, “Becoming a Chemical Detective,” at the request of the office of the Environmental Auditor General of Canada. This is the second presentation BCAM has made to this group.

Putting the FUN in FUNdraising

BCAM received donations from two special events that took place in November: Our longtime board member, Deena Dlusy-Apel, and her husband and BCAM volunteer, Max Beer, organized a wedding party to celebrate their recent union and asked that in honour donations be made to BCAM. It was truly a fun event – and, all food and entertainment was donated. We thank Deena and Max for their exemplary FUNdraising efforts, their guests for their generous donations, and everyone who provided food and entertainment.

If you would like to know more about how to organize your own celebration as a fundraising event for BCAM, please contact Rosanne at the office: 514-483-1846

For the third consecutive year, BCAM volunteer Peggy Sakow and Stephen Glass, Director of Music at Congregation Shaar Hashomayim, organized an evening of music entitled, “All The Things You Are.” Attendees were treated to selections from jazz, operetta and sacred music repertoires by performers who volunteered their time and talent, and all proceeds were donated in support of BCAM projects. Our sincere thanks once again go to Peggy and Stephen for their hard work and their dedication to BCAM.
